While most of my co-workers thought they needed to buy something specific and/or worried about what to wear. I felt lucky that I had thrifted a 1960's Hawaiian Maxi dress last year.
Unfortunately, the dress was extremely overwhelming with print and the location of the elastic fit me in an awkward location.
Here's a brief illustration of how the dress looked like before.
(obviously not the right colors or anything, but you get the idea.)
So here's what I did to fix it. I removed the elastic. I then cut the skirt portion off and cut off enough fabric so it would reach knee length. I cut from the middle, so I just gathered what I cut off. That way I wouldn't have to re-hem the dress by hand.
I wish I could find actual before pictures, but it seems I deleted them long ago :(
So my 1960's dress went from an unflattering maxi dress to a more 1950's style dress!
